Opened on April 1st 2001, this attractive par-3 course is
destined to become one of the Algarve's golfing gems. Set
within the Balaia Golf Village complex east of the bustling
holiday resort of Albufeira and looking out over the ocean,
it is a course to test every golfer, irrespective of handicap.
You can go out and play eighteen holes to concentrate on
your short game, without the drilling which time on a practice
ground sometimes implies. Alternatively, you can just play
nine, leaving plenty of time for things.
As
you stand on the first tee, you can see pretty well the
whole of the course spread out before you. While aesthetics
are not exactly what golf is all about, what you see is
indeed a pretty sight. An old wooden bridge divides
two lakes just in front of the first green and, with the
clubhouse just behind you, this is an opening hole to test
the nerves.
Tee
to green distances on the course range from 67 metres to
160 metres.
The third, despite being the shortest, is certainly
not the easiest hole. The tee looks up to an elevated green
which not only slopes towards you, but has subtle undulations
to test your putting. As if that were not enough of a challenge,
a strategically- placed bunker in front means a good test
of club selection.
Hole four- stroke index 1 - is 160 metres long a
bordered by cork oaks. Individual ability will dictate which
club you choose.
Because of the trees, accuracy is the key.
Holes six and seven turn back towards the beautifully
appointed clubhouse. The sixth plays from an elevated tee
to a wide green.
The seventh flows along a rolling fairway where judging
flight line will prove critical.
The imposing clubhouse stands overlooking the course, the
complex and the sea in the distance.
